The Historic District
For the history buff, there is a wealth of knowledge and tradition in St. Augustine. Even before 1513 when Ponce de Leon discovered the Fountain of Youth and claimed it for Spain, there were large complex societies of Native Americans living in the St. Johns River area. Transport yourself to their world by taking an afternoon hike through nearby Favor-Dykes State Park and you will see mounds of oyster shells called midden. These are actual remnants of long gone civilizations.

Castillo de San Marcos
Enter into a time warp when you step inside the famous Spanish fort, De Castillo De San Marco and see how people lived once upon a time. Walk the cobblestoned district of St. George Street and explore St. Augustine's many exciting museums including the Lightner Museum, the Spanish Quarter Museum, the Old Jail and the Old Florida Museum.

Miles of Beautiful Beaches
There are miles and miles of beautiful beaches that offer many recreational activities. Drive yourself to a spot on the beach on Anastasia Island State Park and picnic the day away in the sun. There are miles of rivers for the recreational boater or jet skier, just be careful to watch out for the gentle giant, the manatee. If fishing is your outlet, then welcome home! St. Augustine offers some of the best fishing on the East Coast.
