As his chief opponents are claiming victory, state Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, says the race to lead the Florida Senate starting in 2014 is far from over.

Thrasher had been supporting Andy Gardiner in what has become a heated Senate president battle.

The Orlando Republican cut an unexpected deal with the man seen as his main rival, Jack Latvala, after Thrasher, Joe Negron, and incoming Senate President Don Gaetz pulled their support from Gardiner after they said he did not have the votes to win.

Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, has pulled the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind eminent domain bill from its last committee stop on the Senate side.

He wants to hold onto it until both sides can work out a compromise. He would not commit to either side.

"I want the school to win, and I want the neighborhood to win," Thrasher said Wednesday after meeting with State Rep. Bill Proctor, R-St. Augustine, and St. Augustine Mayor Joe Boles. Proctor favors the bill and Boles opposes it.
